Premier League Referee David Coote's contract terminated with immediate effect over Liverpool abuse

10 December 2024

Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has officially decided to sack English referee David Coote from his position, after investigations revealed that his actions constituted a serious breach of his contract. Coote was suspended last month after a video clip spread on social media showing him insulting Liverpool and its former manager Jurgen Klopp.

The English Premier League's refereeing body said in a statement on Monday: "Following a comprehensive investigation into David Coote's conduct, his employment with the refereeing body has been terminated today with immediate effect."

David Coote, 42, has refereed six Premier League matches this season, including one between Liverpool and Aston Villa on November 9, which the Reds won 2-0.
