Liverpool lost to host Tottenham by one goal to nil in a match that brought them together on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the English Football League Cup semi-final. Tottenham owes this victory to its Swedish player Lucas Bergvall, who scored the only goal of the match in the 86th minute.
The match witnessed Tottenham's Uruguayan international midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suffering a serious injury in the seventh minute, as a result of which he lost consciousness.
Betancur was carried on a "stretcher" a few minutes later off the field, as he appeared to be suffering from a head injury, so the Tottenham coach replaced the Uruguayan player with his Welsh colleague Brennan Johnson in the 15th minute.
Tottenham later confirmed that Bentancur "has regained consciousness and is talking, and is now on his way to the hospital for further examinations." The second leg between Liverpool and Tottenham will be held on Thursday evening, February 6, at Anfield Stadium.
It is noteworthy that the other match in the semi-final witnessed Newcastle's victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with two goals to none.
