Bayer Leverkusen's coach, the Spaniard Xabi Alonso (43 years old), succeeded in achieving his first victory over Borussia Dortmund, and his team returned with three valuable points with a (3-2) victory, Friday, at the Senegal Iduna Park stadium in the 16th week of the German Football League, raising its score to 35 points in second place.
Since he began coaching Leverkusen, the Spanish coach led his team in three matches against Borussia Dortmund, during which he achieved two draws and one loss, failing to defeat the league giant. In an exciting match, Alonso succeeded in entering 2025 strongly with a victory over one of the strong clubs, to secure a ninth consecutive victory in all competitions, reaching one point behind title leaders Bayern Munich (who have a match in hand).
Leverkusen entered the match aggressively, scoring a mere few seconds from the kick-off, through Nigerian Nathan Tella, and Czech Patrick Cech added a brace, while Jimmy Gittens and Wuguerassi scored for Borussia Dortmund from a penalty kick, as Dortmund paid dearly for the absences that affected its defense and made it enter the match with a reduced squad, in addition to the fact that it conceded two goals in the first minutes of the game, which made it difficult for it to return to the result despite the efforts it made at the end of the match.
