Three Premier League matches dominated by draws

Tuesday's Premier League fixtures saw Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool draw with Bournemouth, Brentford and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth (2-2)

Chelsea captain Reece James saved his team from defeat at Bournemouth with a free-kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time, as the match ended 2-2. James, who came on in the second half and returned from a long-term injury at the weekend, beat Mark Travers with a deflected shot into the far corner.

Cole Palmer scored for Chelsea in the first half before Bournemouth equalised from the penalty spot through Justin Kluivert early in the second half. Antoine Semenyo then stunned the Stamford Bridge crowd when he fired a near-post rocket past Robert Sanchez to make it 2-1 for Bournemouth.

Palmer scored his 14th Premier League goal of the season after receiving a neat pass from Nicolas Jackson who had evaded three Bournemouth midfielders on the halfway line. The Chelsea star sent goalkeeper Travers to the ground with a trick move and slotted the ball home.

Chelsea, who have failed to win their last five Premier League games, remain fourth in the table on 37 points, 10 behind leaders Liverpool, while Bournemouth have 34.

Brentford vs Man City (2-2)

Manchester City squandered a two-goal lead when late goals from Ioanni Wissa and Kristian Norgaard earned Brentford a thrilling 2-2 draw at home in the Premier League.  After suffering six league defeats in November and December, City bounced back with a draw at Everton and wins over Leicester City and West Ham United but a late collapse on Tuesday halted their revival, which was short-lived and came to an abrupt end.The point earned by City moved them up to sixth in the table on 35 points, while Brentford are 10th on 28 after an unlikely comeback.

After struggling to create chances in the first half, Manchester City winger Savinho came close to opening the scoring in the 50th minute when he advanced from the left before hitting the post.

City finally took the lead in the 66th minute when Kevin De Bruyne sent in a superb pass from the right and Foden met it with a shot at the far post. The game should have been settled when Foden scored a second 12 minutes later.

But four minutes later, Yoani Wissa pulled one back in the 82nd minute with a close-range effort and with City's defenders making a series of late interventions to protect their lead they should have been aware of the threat posed by Brentford. Denmark international Norgaard completed Brentford's comeback in the second minute of stoppage time, heading the ball past Stefan Ortega despite City's goalkeeper putting his hand to clear the ball.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool (1-1)

Liverpool drew 1-1 with hosts Nottingham Forest in the top match of the 21st round of the English Premier League. Nottingham Forest took an early lead after eight minutes, with a goal from Chris Wood,  his 13th goal in the English Premier League this season.

Liverpool equalised with a goal from their Portuguese striker Diogo Jota in the 66th minute, to earn each team a point. But Liverpool continued to bleed points with a second consecutive draw, and also failed to avenge their defeat against Nottingham Forest, who inflicted the only defeat in the first round match between the two teams.

The draw also ended a run of six consecutive wins for Nottingham, who remained in second place with 41 points, six points behind leaders Liverpool.
