Ancelotti under threat, Real Madrid looking for alternatives

20 January 2025

Media reports suggest that Real Madrid are looking for alternatives for incumbent coach Italian Carlo Ancelotti, with some suggesting he could be replaced before the end of the current season.

According to the Spanish network "Relevo", Ancelotti is going through a difficult period at Real Madrid, as he never imagined that the Santiago Bernabeu stadium would receive him with boos despite winning two titles this season (the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup for clubs), and after achieving the Spanish League and Champions League titles 6 months ago.

What happened with Ancelotti, last Thursday against Celta Vigo in the Cup, was described by the coach himself as (a warning). Real Madrid fans who are not easily satisfied, consider Ancelotti as partially responsible for the disaster that occurred against Barcelona in Jeddah (2-5) in the Spanish Super Cup final, and for the team's poor performance this season against the big teams.

Apart from the opinions of the fans, Carlo Ancelotti is fully aware that losing the Spanish Super Cup has put him under threat in front of President Florentino Perez.

Ancelotti knows very well that they respect and appreciate him in the management of Real Madrid because of what he has achieved, but it is no secret to him that the senior management has begun to lose confidence in his management, and that the defeats against Milan and the first Clasico (0-4) have put him on the brink of the abyss.

Real Madrid had previously put Santiago Solari on standby to take over the team if Real Madrid lost to Osasuna on November 9, but the team won (4-0) in that match.

The team later stumbled against Liverpool and Athletic Bilbao, and the visit to Girona on December 7 became another test, but Ancelotti passed it with a score of (3-0) and contained the crisis.

"The president and general manager (José Angel Sanchez) will not make the decision to dismiss Ancelotti unless there is a disaster in the Champions League, which means elimination in the early stages.

Real Madrid's chances of qualifying directly to the round of 16 are almost impossible, and if they do not fail to finish the group stage against Salzburg and Brest, they will have to play the round of 32 to fight among the best 16 teams.

"Real Madrid could meet Bayern Munich or Atletico in the Champions League, and if they lose, Ancelotti will possibly be sacked, and Solari will be the first choice to take over the team until June 30.
