Atletico Madrid tied with its host and neighbor Real Madrid with one goal each in the match that brought them together, Saturday, at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium in the 24th round of the Spanish Football League.
Atletico Madrid took the lead with a goal scored by Argentine Julian Alvarez from a penalty kick in the 34th minute, before Real Madrid equalized through Kylian Mbappe in the 49th minute after the French striker met a rebound from the Atletico defense with a perfect shot inside the net.
With this result, Real Madrid remained at the top of "La Liga" with 50 points compared to 49 points for Atletico, and the draw was in favor of Barcelona (45 points), which will be able to reduce the gap with the leader and runner-up with a win against its host Sevilla , Sunday.
Real Madrid will play another difficult match next Tuesday, as they will face Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 play-off, knowing that Barcelona and Atletico have already qualified directly for the round of 16 of the continental tournament.
