Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo sparked widespread debate after self proclaiming that he is "the best and most complete player in the history of football" and in light of these statements, Karim Benzema, captain of Al-Ittihad, revealed his opinion on the matter.
Benzema, who shares Ronaldo's lead as the top scorer in the Saudi Roshen League with 16 goals, spoke frankly about his opinion on Ronaldo's statements, considering that the Brazilian Ronaldo (the phenomenon) is the best for him. The French player also indicated that comparisons between players are not something he prefers, stressing that each of them has his own career that deserves respect.
Regarding Ronaldo's statement, Benzema said on the Brazilian channel TNT: "Everyone is free to say what they want. If Cristiano thinks he is the best in history, that is his opinion, but for me, the best is the phenomenon Ronaldo the Brazilian. However, Cristiano is Cristiano and what he offers deserves praise."
The 37-year-old added: "I don't like to compare players, because each player has his own story. Cristiano's story is very special and speaks for itself."
Benzema led Al-Ittihad to a big win over Al-Hilal (4-1) in the match that took place at Al-Enma Stadium in Jeddah, in the 21st round of the Saudi Roshen League, to lead the Saudi Roshen League with 55 points, seven points ahead of runner-up Al-Hilal.
He also contributed to his team's qualification to the semi-finals of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, after eliminating Al-Hilal on penalties in the quarter-finals.
In terms of individual numbers, Benzema's brilliance was not limited to scoring 16 goals in the league only, but he also made 7 goals for his teammates. In the King's Cup, he added two goals to his tally in two matches.
