A match between Al-Jabalain Club and Al-Adalah at Prince Abdulaziz bin Musaed bin Jalawi Stadium in Hail on Wednesday, as part of the Saudi First Division League "Yelo" competitions, witnessed an incident that sparked widespread controversy. During the added time, when the score was tied 1-1, Al-Adalah Club succeeded in adding a second goal from a header inside the box.
Al-Jabalain Club goalkeeper, Brazilian Marcelo Carney, list his temper after the referee Mamdouh Al-Shahdan decided to count the goal, as he believed that there was an offside incident on the opposing player.
Goalkeeper Carney received a red card as a result of his anger, before assaulting referee Mamdouh Al-Shahdan, as he pushed him and threw him to the ground, before the players intervened to separate them.
The Saudi Football Association issued an official statement regarding the incident, expressing its rejection and denunciation of the incident, and its full emphasis on the respect of the game's elements for the refereeing crews and following the regulations and instructions that stipulate fair play.
The Saudi Federation stressed its support for referee Mamdouh Al-Shahdan and football referees in all Saudi football competitions.
The Brazilian Marcelo Carne, goalkeeper of Al-Jabalain team, faces a 10-match suspension for assaulting the match referee.
Article 49 of the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee regulations states: The player shall be suspended for ten matches for assaulting or spitting on any match official, in any way, with a fine of 100,000 riyals.
Carne will therefore be absent from Al-Jabalain until the last match of the season, as the team has 11 matches remaining until the end of the current season of the "Yelo" League.
