Real Madrid achieved a hard fought and valuable victory over their guest and city rival Atletico Madrid with a score of 2-1 , Tuesday, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Brazilian winger Rodrygo scored Real Madrid's first goal in the fourth minute, after a through pass from Valverde before the Brazilian penetrated the penalty area and shot the ball with his left foot to the right of Atletico's goalkeeper.
Argentine striker Julian Alvarez scored the equalizer for Atletico in the 31st minute with a brilliant shot in the far post.
In the 55th minute, after a quick exchange of the ball between Frenchman Ferland Mendy, Brazilian Vinicius Junior and Moroccan Brahim Diaz, the ball reached the Moroccan player who penetrated the penalty area before dribbling past Atletico defender Jose Gimenez who lost his balancebefore Diaz brilliantly placed the ball with his right foot into the net.
The second leg between Real and Atletico is scheduled to be held at the Metropolitano Stadium next Wednesday.
