Newcastle United won the English League Cup (Carabao Cup) for the first time in its history, defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the final match held on Sunday evening. English defender Dan Burn and Swedish striker Alexander Isak scored the "golden" double for Newcastle in the 45th and 52nd minutes, respectively.
Substitute Italian striker Federico Chiesa scored the only goal for the Reds as the match drew to a close at Wembley Stadium in London.
Newcastle United won their first official trophy in 70 years and their second in their history, following their FA Cup win in 1955. Meanwhile, Liverpool suffered another major shock this week after their bitter exit from the Champions League in the round of 16 at the hands of French rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
