Italy striker ruled out of Germany match due to injury

The Italian national team has suffered a severe blow with the confirmation that striker Matteo Retegui will miss both matches against Germany in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals due to injury.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced in a statement published on its website on Wednesday that the Atalanta striker, the league's top scorer with 22 goals, has suffered an unspecified injury to his right thigh. The statement indicated that he will leave the national team camp to undergo further examinations by his club.

The Italian national team will host Germany at the San Siro in Milan on Thursday in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals before visiting Dortmund on the 23rd of this month. The aggregate winner will host the continental finals next June.

Since choosing to play for Italy in 2023, the Argentine-born Retegui has scored six goals in 18 international appearances.
