The date of the 2025 Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid was announced immediately after Barça secured their place in the final on Wednesday at the expense of Atlético Madrid, only to stir a lot of controversy in Spain.
Barça defeated Atlético Madrid 5-4 on aggregate after a 1-0 win in the second leg, securing their place in the final. Merengue had already secured their place in the Copa del Rey final last Tuesday, drawing 4-4 with Real Sociedad in the second leg of the semi-final. However, Los Blancos secured their place in the final thanks to a 1-0 win in the first leg of the same round.
This will be the first final between the two teams in the tournament since 2014, when Real Madrid won 2-1 and won the title. The date of the much-anticipated "El Clásico" in the Copa del Rey final was previously set by La Liga in agreement with the broadcasters DAZN and Movistar.
The final will be held on April 26 at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, but the kick-off time has not yet been set. The final date has sparked considerable controversy in the Madrid media, especially after it became clear that Barcelona will have a longer break than Real Madrid before the match.
The two teams' semifinal matches:
Barcelona will host Real Mallorca on April 22 in the 33rd round of La Liga,
while Real Madrid will visit Getafe on April 23 in the same round.
Therefore, Barcelona will have 72 hours of rest before the final, while Real Madrid will only have 48 hours.
Journalist Isaac Voto confirmed on Radio Cope that Real Madrid's request to postpone the final will have no effect, as the date is fixed and cannot be changed. Voto said, "Real Madrid can request a change of date, but that will not change anything. These are the rules that have been in place since the beginning of the season, and they apply to all clubs."
