The match between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup quarterfinals witnessed a shocking incident from Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who lost his cool following his team's 2-1 defeat. Mourinho had just returned to the bench after serving a four-match suspension for previous comments about the referees.
However, his anger seemed to have taken hold again during this match, which saw Galatasaray prevail thanks to a brace from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
However, the match ended in chaos as both benches clashed in a mass brawl, resulting in three red cards. On the Galatasaray side, substitute Kerem Demirbay was sent off, while on the Fenerbahçe side, both Mert Hakan Yandas and Baris Alper Yilmaz were sent off. It should be noted that Yilmaz had been substituted before being sent off.
Following the final whistle, Mourinho did the unthinkable as he reached out and violently grabbed the nose of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk's, in a scene many considered outrageous and unsportsmanlike. This action caused Buruk to fall to the ground, prompting players from both teams and security personnel to quickly intervene to contain the situation.
Minutes after the end of the match, Galatasaray's official account posted a mocking image of the team's coach looking at Mourinho, with the caption: "You shouldn't attack, you should digest," accompanied by an emoji of a finger to his mouth, an implicit message to Mourinho urging him to calm down and take it easy.
Mourinho may face serious punishments for his unsportsmanlike conduct after the match, as his team prepares to face Trabzonspor next Sunday in a crucial Turkish league match.
It's worth noting that Fenerbahçe has not managed to win against Galatasaray this season, losing two matches and drawing one.
