Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment following Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. Ancelotti said that he bears responsibility for the loss to Arsenal, saying in his statements: "There is no doubt that I feel responsible for the loss to Arsenal."
He added: "We tried to make some individual moves, but they put us on the field. They controlled the game and the result came first." He continued: "Arsenal showed more commitment, better quality, and better unity. Honestly, we weren't bad in the first 60 minutes. It was difficult to recover, but there were things we did well in the first half. The opposing team is very strong and worked hard. Physically, their level is very high."
Ancelotti concluded: "After tonight, it seems there is no hope, but in football, things change. No one expected them to score two goals from set pieces. The Bernabéu has witnessed many comebacks before."
The second leg between Real Madrid and Arsenal is scheduled to take place next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu, the club's home stadium.
