Mohamed Salah Signs Two-Year Contract Extension with Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has committed his future to Liverpool, signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.

The Egyptian forward’s previous deal was due to expire this summer, sparking speculation about a potential move, particularly amid reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Salah’s own comments during the season had added to the uncertainty, but the 32-year-old has now reaffirmed his commitment to the Reds.

With 243 goals and 109 assists in 393 appearances since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has cemented his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats. His new deal gives him the opportunity to build on that remarkable record.

“Of course I’m very excited — we have a great team now,” Salah said following the announcement. “We’ve always had a strong squad, but I believe we can win more trophies and continue to enjoy our football.”

“I’ve been here for eight years. Hopefully, I can reach 10. I’m really enjoying my life and my football in Liverpool. These have been the best years of my career.”

Salah has delivered yet another stellar season, scoring 32 goals across all competitions, including 27 in the Premier League. With Liverpool sitting 11 points clear at the top of the table and seven games remaining, the club is well-positioned to secure a historic 20th top-flight title.

During his time at Liverpool, Salah has helped the team to numerous honors, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

His renewal comes at a crucial time for Liverpool, with fellow stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also approaching the end of their contracts. While Van Dijk has confirmed positive progress in negotiations, Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a potential move to Real Madrid.

Salah’s previous contract made him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, reportedly worth over £350,000 per week. Sources suggest that the new agreement maintains similar terms, with no pay cut involved.

Contract Uncertainty Finally Resolved

Salah’s future had been the subject of intense speculation throughout the season. In a September interview with Sky Sports, he remarked that it was likely his final season at Anfield, citing a lack of discussions about a contract extension. That statement followed a standout performance in a 3–0 win over Manchester United, a match he later revealed he approached as if it were his last at Old Trafford.

In November, after a victory at Southampton, Salah expressed disappointment over the club’s silence on his contract status, saying he felt “probably more out than in.” Despite public claims from Liverpool that positive talks were ongoing, Salah again voiced frustration in January, saying negotiations were "far away from any progress."

Amid persistent rumors, including a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad in 2023 that Liverpool rejected, Salah remained a key target for Saudi Arabian clubs. Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal even described Salah as "a big prize" and expressed strong interest in bringing him to the Saudi Pro League.

However, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot made it clear earlier this year that he wanted Salah to stay, praising the forward’s intelligence and suggesting he would make the right decision about his future.

The club’s announcement of Salah’s new contract featured a symbolic image of the player — dubbed the ‘Egyptian King’ — seated on a throne at Anfield, accompanied by the caption: ‘More in than out’.
