Former referee Keith Hackett believes Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé deserves a 10-match ban after receiving a straight red card during his team's match against Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish League. Despite the controversial expulsion, Real Madrid managed to secure a valuable and hard-fought 1-0 victory over Alaves in the match that took place on Sunday in the 31st round of La Liga.
Mbappé's red card came in the 38th minute after a violent tackle on an opposing player. Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett said: "It was an extremely brutal challenge that put the player's safety at real risk, and the referee was right to quickly show the red card."
Hackett added: "Now it's the disciplinary committee's turn to prove that this type of behavior has no place on the pitch. Mbappé should be banned for 10 matches to send a clear message that such behavior is unacceptable from any player."
However, a ten-match suspension appears unlikely, but Mbappé faces a three-match suspension under Spanish Football Federation regulations.
Mbappé, 26, is expected to be a key member of Real Madrid's lineup for next Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal, unless the committee decides to suspend him before the match.
