The 2024-25 Champions League has reached its penultimate stop, with the tournament reaching its most exciting stage: the semi-finals. The current edition of the competition has witnessed several surprises that have astonished football fans, most notably the exit of Premier League leaders Liverpool in the round of 16 after a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid, the defending champion and the most decorated club in the continental competition with 15 titles, was eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing 5-1 on aggregate to Arsenal.
Manchester City, the defending Premier League champions, fared no better, exiting the tournament in the play-offs to qualify for the round of 16.
On the other hand, four teams have reached the Champions League semi-finals this season: Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Inter Milan. In this decisive round, only four clubs out of the 36 teams that started the tournament will compete for the most prestigious title on the Old Continent.
Barcelona made a remarkable return to the semi-finals for the first time in six years, defeating Borussia Dortmund 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
Paris Saint-Germain advanced at the expense of Aston Villa (5-4), while Arsenal continued their impressive run by eliminating giants Real Madrid (5-1).
Inter Milan narrowly defeated Bayern Munich 4-3 on aggregate.
The Champions League semi-finals will be played over two legs between April 29 and May 7, with the final scheduled for May 31, 2025, at the Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich.
