The third and final round of Group B of the 2025 Club World Cup begins on Monday evening when Atlético Madrid meets Botafogo and Paris Saint-Germain meets Seattle Sounders. The four teams are competing for two spots in the Round of 16. Botafogo leads the standings with six points, followed by Paris Saint-Germain in second place with three points, ahead of Atlético Madrid on the head-to-head record. Seattle Sounders are at the bottom of the standings with no points.
The Atlético Madrid vs. Botafogo match and Paris Saint-Germain vs. Seattle Sounders match will kick off at the same time, at 8:00 PM GMT time on Monday.
The most prominent match in this group will be the match between Atlético Madrid and Botafogo, and the Spanish team must win this match to avoid an early exit from the Club World Cup.
Atlético Madrid bounced back from their crushing 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in their opening match, securing all three points in the previous round with a 3-1 win over Seattle. However, Botafogo defeated European champions Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.
Atlético Madrid's chances of qualifying remain complicated. If Paris Saint-Germain wins, as expected, against Seattle, Atlético will need to beat Botafogo by three goals at the Rose Bowl to overturn the goal difference in their favor.
While Botafogo needs a win or a draw to secure qualification to the round of 16, the only way Botafogo will be eliminated is if they lose by three goals or more in this match, and Paris Saint-Germain wins against Seattle Sounders.
For their part, Paris Saint-Germain knows that a win will be enough to advance to the round of 16, especially since the European champions' shock defeat to Botafogo in the second round has left qualification for the knockout stages still uncertain.
A draw with Seattle Sounders could be enough for Paris Saint-Germain to advance to the round of 16 if Atlético Madrid fails to beat Botafogo.
On the other hand, Seattle Sounders needs a surprise win over Paris Saint-Germain, Botafogo needs to overcome Atlético, and then the American team needs to score enough goals to take the lead in the head-to-head record if the three teams finish level on three points each.
This looks like a daunting task, especially since Seattle has lost four consecutive matches, including its last three at home, for the first time since 2011.
