Mexico won the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the tenth time, after defeating the United States 2-1 in Houston on Monday. The Mexican national team overturned a 1-0 deficit against its American counterpart to win a precious and deserved 2-1 victory in the final of the continental competition, which was co-hosted by the United States and Canada.

The US opened the scoring with a header from Chris Richards in the fourth minute. Mexico then completely dominated the match until 34-year-old veteran Raúl Jiménez equalized after a through ball from Marcel Ruiz in the 27th minute.

Mexico sealed the victory with a header from Edson Álvarez, who scored the second goal in the 77th minute.

Mexico has maintained an unbeaten streak in its six matches as it seeks to extend its record as the most successful team in the tournament, which began in 1991, three titles ahead of its closest competitor, the US.

Mexico retained the title having won five matches and drawn one, scoring 10 goals and conceding three.
