Argentine legend Lionel Messi continued his scoring streak, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over Nashville SC, ending their opponent's 15-game unbeaten streak.
Inter Miami defeated Nashville SC 2-0 at dawn on Sunday in the American League. Messi opened the scoring for Inter Miami from a free kick in the 17th minute. Nashville equalized early in the second half through Hany Mokhtar, before Messi restored his team's lead, capitalizing on a crucial error by the opposing team's goalkeeper in the 62nd minute.
This is Messi's fifth consecutive MLS brace, having scored in his last four matches: two against Montreal (4-2 and 3-1 wins), one in the 5-1 win over Columbus Crew, and one in the 2-1 win over New England.
So far, Messi has scored 16 goals in 16 MLS games this season, tying with Nashville's Sam Surridge, who has 16 goals in 21 games, as the league's top scorer.
Inter Miami is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 38 points, five points behind leaders Philadelphia Union and four behind second-place Cincinnati. However, Lionel Messi's teammates have three games postponed due to their participation in the Club World Cup.
