Argentine Lionel Messi led his team, Inter Miami, to a thrilling 5-1 victory over New York Red Bulls in the early hours of Sunday morning in Major League Soccer.
Messi scored two goals in the match, continuing his impressive run in the tournament with a brace for the sixth time in his last seven matches.
The New York Red Bulls opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Alexander Hack, before Jordi Alba equalized for Inter Miami in the 24th minute after a pass from Messi.
Tellasso Segovia added the second and third goals in the 27th and 45+3rd minutes, assisted by Alba and Redondo, respectively.
In the second half, Messi scored the fourth goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Busquets, and then added the fifth goal in the 75th minute after a pass from Suárez. With this victory, Inter Miami moved up to 41 points in fifth place with three games remaining, while the New York Red Bulls remained in ninth place with 33 points.
Messi became the MLS's top scorer with 18 goals, surpassing Sam Surridge (17 goals) and Evander (15 goals).
