Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi suffered an injury during the opening minutes of his team, Inter Miami,'s penalty shootout victory over Mexican side Necaxa in a Leagues Cup match. Inter Miami, led by Javier Mascherano, faced Mexican side Necaxa on Sunday morning at Lockhart Stadium. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation time, and the two teams went to penalties, with Messi's teammates winning 5-4.
In the 11th minute of the match, Lionel Messi suffered a hamstring injury and headed directly to the locker room at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Inter Miami said in an official statement: "Messi underwent medical tests to assess the extent of the muscle discomfort he felt, which forced him to leave the game.
The results revealed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His clearance to return will depend on his clinical development and response to treatment." It's worth noting that Messi leads the MLS scoring charts this season with 18 goals and nine assists in 18 matches.
