Manchester United have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko in a deal valued at £73.7 million (€85 million).
The transfer includes a guaranteed payment of £66.3 million (€76.5 million), with the remaining sum structured as performance-related add-ons.
Sesko is set to undergo a medical on Friday before completing his move to Old Trafford. The 22-year-old forward, who had also attracted interest from Newcastle United, has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
The signing of Sesko adds to an already busy summer for United, who have brought in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined fee of approximately £130 million. The club structured the payments to ensure continued financial flexibility in the market.
In addition, United have temporarily offloaded Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, with the Spanish club covering his full £325,000-a-week wages. The club also received £5 million in compensation from Chelsea after the Blues withdrew from a proposed deal to sign Jadon Sancho.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho has been made available for transfer, with United valuing the Argentine winger at £50 million amid growing interest from Chelsea.
Last season’s main striker, Rasmus Hojlund, is also on the market, with the club willing to sell the Danish international for £40 million after he managed just 14 Premier League goals across two seasons.
Sesko’s decision to join United represents another setback for Newcastle, who have already lost out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and may now see Alexander Isak follow, with the Sweden international linked with a move to Anfield.
Since moving to Germany, Sesko has become the most prolific under-23 scorer across Europe’s top five leagues, netting 39 goals—surpassing Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham by one and outpacing Florian Wirtz by five, following the latter’s £100 million transfer to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.
Known for his physical presence, pace, and aerial ability, Sesko has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland—partly due to their shared history at RB Salzburg. He clocked one of the fastest speeds recorded among Bundesliga strikers last season at 35.7 km/h and also posted the highest aerial duel success rate among strikers involved in at least 60 challenges.
