Real Madrid Declares War on 'Miami Plan'

Real Madrid Declares War on 'Miami Plan'

13 August 2025

Real Madrid published an official statement announcing its rejection of the proposal to hold the seventh round of the Spanish League match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami, USA.

The club considered the decision to be made without consultation or approval from the concerned clubs, explaining that this step gives an unfair advantage to the clubs whose matches are broadcast, threatens the integrity of the competition, and could open the door to future decisions based on purely commercial interests.

All indications point to the match being played on Saturday, December 20, at the famous Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, home of Inter Miami, the team currently playing for Lionel Messi.

Real Madrid has taken three official steps to counter the decision:

1. Approaching FIFA to demand that the match not be held outside Spain without the consent of all clubs.

2. Contacting UEFA to urge the Spanish Football Federation to withdraw or reject the request, based on the 2018 standards that prohibit domestic matches from being played abroad.

3. The Spanish Supreme Sports Council was requested not to grant the required administrative license without the unanimous consent of the clubs.

The club affirmed its commitment to upholding the laws that protect the integrity of the tournaments and its readiness to take all legal measures to ensure their implementation.
