Liverpool plans to sign VVD successor

13 August 2025

Liverpool, led by Dutch coach Arne Slot, is keen to sign one of the players available in the transfer window, who many consider a potential successor to current Reds defender Virgil van Dijk. In his first year as Liverpool manager, Slot led the team to the 2024-25 Premier League title and is looking to build on that success with further titles.

According to British reports, Liverpool is working on signing 18-year-old Parma defender Giovanni Leone.

Liverpool views Giovanni Leone as a future defender and a successor to team captain Virgil van Dijk in defense.

Liverpool made significant moves in the summer transfer window, securing signings worth approximately £270 million. Liverpool made seven signings, including Jérémie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pichi, Freddie Woodman, and Will Wright.

Parma signed Leone from Sampdoria in 2024 after his impressive performances in Serie B. At just 18 years old, he had made 17 league appearances and scored one goal.
