Manchester City THRASHES Wolves 4-0 in season opener

17 August 2025

Manchester City, led by manager Pep Guardiola, made an ideal start to the new Premier League season on Saturday evening, thrashing Wolverhampton 4-0. Molineux Stadium hosted the match between Manchester City and Wolverhampton in the first round of the English Premier League.

A minute's silence was observed before kickoff in memory of star Diogo Jota, who was killed along with his brother in a tragic accident last July. Wolverhampton fans prepared a special tifo in the stands to honor Jota, who previously played for Wolves before joining Liverpool in 2020.

Manchester City tried to score early, but Wolverhampton's defense held firm. In the 34th minute, Erling Haaland scored to make it 1-0.

Manchester City didn't hesitate to extend their lead with a second goal, scored by Reinders in the 37th minute.

The score remained this way, with Manchester City leading Wolverhampton 2-0 until the end of the first half.

In the second half, Manchester City continued to put pressure on Wolverhampton, with Erling Haaland scoring his second goal and City's third. The visitors continued to dominate the match against Wolverhampton, and in the 81st minute, Rayan Cherki scored Manchester City's fourth goal, making the score 4-0.

With this result, Manchester City moved to three points at the top of the Premier League, on goal difference ahead of the second-placed team.
