The last dance: Messi's Last Official Match on Argentina's soil!

21 August 2025

The Argentine national team will play their last  home match in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, a moment that could mark the end of a glorious chapter in its football history.

Argentina has already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and secured top spot in the continental qualifiers.

On September 4, the Argentine national team, led by legendary star Lionel Messi, will host Venezuela at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, before departing to face Ecuador on September 9, in the final rounds of the qualifiers.

The September 4 match will most likely be Messi's last official match on home soil, according to the Argentinian media

After that, there will be two FIFA dates remaining in October and November, which will include two friendlies for Argentina abroad, in addition to the Finalissima match and the 2026 World Cup.

Since Messi will be 39 years old at the 2026 World Cup, all indications point to the match against Venezuela likely being the last official appearance for "La Pulga" on home soil, especially since Argentina will not be participating in the upcoming qualifiers after becoming one of the host countries for the opening match of the 2030 World Cup.

It is worth noting that Argentina, led by Messi, won the last World Cup in Qatar and will seek to defend its title in the 2026 edition, which could also be Messi's final appearance in a major tournament.
