Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest Share Tense Draw

Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest played out a heated 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, with on-pitch drama matched by tension in the stands and questions over managerial futures.

The home side struck first after 37 minutes when Ismaila Sarr timed his run perfectly to meet Daniel Muñoz’s cross, sweeping home a composed finish past Matz Sels.

Palace almost doubled their lead just before the break, but captain Marc Guehi’s header from an Adam Wharton free-kick cannoned off the post.

Forest, who had offered little attacking threat in the first half, levelled on 57 minutes.

Callum Hudson-Odoi raced on to a pass from Dan Ndoye, showing pace and composure to beat Dean Henderson at the near post.

The visitors nearly snatched victory late on, with Igor Jesus striking the woodwork and debutant Omari Hutchinsonlifting an effort narrowly over in stoppage time.

The backdrop was just as fiery as the football.

Palace fans vented anger at Forest’s involvement in their Europa League demotion to the Conference League following UEFA’s ruling on multi-club ownership.

Banners and chants directed at Forest’s hierarchy underlined the ill-feeling throughout the afternoon.

Crystal Palace: Sarr steps up in post-Eze era

For Palace, this fixture was about more than just rivalry.

It was their first home league game since the departure of talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, leaving Oliver Glasner to solve a creativity gap.

Sarr, often seen as a supporting act last season, looked determined to become a main figure.

He repeatedly stretched the Forest defence with direct runs and capped his display with the opener.

With Palace’s strategy still focused on Jean-Philippe Mateta as a target man and runners breaking forward, Sarr could become pivotal in carrying attacking responsibility.

Yet squad depth remains a concern.

Two goalkeepers on the bench highlighted how thin Glasner’s options are ahead of a long campaign that includes European commitments.

Nottingham Forest: A point, but uncertainty lingers

For Forest, the point means four from their opening two fixtures, but the focus remains on Nuno Espírito Santo’suncertain future.

Despite dismissing speculation about his position as “nonsense” before kick-off, his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis remains strained.

On the pitch, Forest were far from convincing.

Reliance on Chris Wood, who went close early on, remains evident, while the team managed only one meaningful attack before their equaliser.

Even with fresh talent in Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and James McAtee off the bench, their threat was inconsistent.

Hudson-Odoi’s equaliser offered relief, though Henderson will feel disappointed to have been beaten at his near post in front of England boss Thomas Tuchel.

Forest’s late rally hinted at potential, but questions over their attacking balance—and Nuno’s future—persist.

Palace may regret missed chances but can take encouragement from Sarr’s lively display as they adjust to life without Eze.

Forest, meanwhile, remain unbeaten, but the uncertainty around their manager continues to overshadow results.
