Wolfsburg secure Christian Eriksen on two-year deal

VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, with the experienced Danish midfielder agreeing to a two-year contract following his departure from Manchester United earlier this summer.

Eriksen, 33, brings a wealth of top-flight experience, having made 310 Premier League appearances across spells with United, Brentford, and Tottenham Hotspur. His career also includes stints at Ajax Amsterdam, where he emerged as a standout playmaker, and Inter Milan, where he lifted the Serie A title.

The midfielder’s return to the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 remains one of football’s most remarkable comebacks. Fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), Eriksen re-established himself at the highest level, earning plaudits for both his resilience and enduring quality.

Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz highlighted Eriksen’s potential influence both on and off the pitch:

“We’re bringing in a player who has experienced everything at the highest level. His vast experience, technical quality, and leadership will be especially valuable in guiding our younger players.”

Currently sitting sixth in the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg see Eriksen as a key addition to balance their youthful squad with elite-level know-how. The Danish international is expected to provide both creativity in midfield and a stabilising presence as the club push for European qualification.

Wolfsburg return to league action on Saturday against Cologne, where Eriksen could make his debut.
