Spurs Outclass 10-Man West Ham to Climb Second

Tottenham secured a dominant Premier League win at the London Stadium, adding to Graham Potter’s mounting problems at West Ham.

The result pushed Spurs up to second in the table, level with leaders Arsenal, and saw Thomas Frank become only the third Spurs boss to win his first two away top-flight matches, following Ossie Ardiles and Tim Sherwood.

For the Hammers, it was another night of frustration.

They have not celebrated a home league victory since February and have now leaked eight goals in just two home matches this season.

The breakthrough came just after half-time when Pape Matar Sarr was inexplicably left free to nod in the opener.

Moments later, West Ham’s situation worsened as Tomas Soucek was dismissed for a reckless tackle on Joao Palhinha.

Almost immediately, Lucas Bergvall doubled the lead with a clever looping header, before Micky van de Ven hammered home a third after poor defending inside the box.

Many home supporters began heading for the exits well before the final whistle, with West Ham now sitting 18th.

West Ham: Costly Defensive Errors

Despite showing some early energy, West Ham fell apart defensively.

Lucas Paqueta wasted a promising first-half chance, and once Spurs grew into the match, the hosts were repeatedly exposed.

Set-piece marking was especially poor: Sarr’s opener came from being completely unmarked, Bergvall’s header caught the back line flat-footed, and Van de Ven’s strike highlighted how even with numbers in the box, West Ham struggled to clear their lines.

Tottenham: Strong Start in a New Era

Tottenham’s first outing since the departure of long-serving chairman Daniel Levy could hardly have gone better.

With figures from the Lewis family and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham watching on, Spurs delivered a confident, professional display.

Cristian Romero had a first-half header chalked off, but Spurs remained in control.

While West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus was booed on his return, the evening belonged to Lucas Bergvall.

The 19-year-old midfielder showcased vision and composure, completing almost 90% of his passes, creating chances, and rounding off his performance with a goal and an assist.

Tottenham left with momentum and belief, while West Ham were left staring at the same familiar problems.
