The Spanish club giants, Real Madrid, secured a crushing 5-0 victory over hosts Kairat Almaty, the Kazakh champions, on Tuesday evening, in the second round of the Champions League.
French star Kylian Mbappé played a starring role in Real Madrid's victory, scoring a hat-trick for his team in the 25th, 52nd, and 73rd minutes of the match.
French substitute Eduardo Camavinga scored Real Madrid's fourth goal in the 83rd minute, and Moroccan Brahim Diaz scored the fifth goal in the 90+3 minute to consolidate the victory for his team, led by Spanish coach Xabi Alonso.
Real Madrid moved to six points at the top of the table after the team achieved its second consecutive victory. Real Madrid reconciled with its fans after the bitter defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, 5-2, in the Spanish League last Saturday.
In contrast, Italian club Atalanta defeated Belgian club Bruges 2-1 in the same round. Christos Tsoulis gave Bruges the lead in the 38th minute, while Atalanta equalized through Lazar Samardzic in the 74th minute from a penalty kick.
Mario Pasalic scored the winning goal in the 87th minute for Atalanta, earning them their first three points in the league, while Bruges also remained at three points.
