The strong relationship and camaraderie between Real Madrid forwards was on full display in their match against Villarreal on Saturday. Frenchman Kylian Mbappé and his Brazilian teammate Vinicius Junior made headlines after a gesture between the two players. Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 3-1 on Saturday evening in the eighth round of the Spanish League. Vinicius Junior scored two goals, one of which was a penalty kick he was awarded but Mbappé did not take, despite being the team's primary penalty taker.
Real Madrid TV revealed the reason for Mbappé's decision to hand the ball to his teammate Vinicius to take the penalty kick during the match, explaining that Mbappé gave up the ball to avoid taking the penalty kick in front of his former teammate Arnau Tenas, who played alongside him at Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappé scored Real Madrid's third goal in the 81st minute.
With this result, Real Madrid temporarily leads the standings with 21 points, two points ahead of second-place Barcelona, while Villarreal remains in third place with 16 points.
