Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has no intention of considering a move to the Saudi Pro League, despite renewed speculation linking him with a lucrative switch, BBC Sport understands.
The 31-year-old Portugal international rejected significant offers from Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad last summer and remains fully focused on his career at Old Trafford. Sources close to the player have dismissed recent reports suggesting he is prepared to leave Manchester United after next summer’s World Cup in order to accept a Saudi offer.
According to those familiar with the situation, Fernandes is committed to remaining in Europe and competing at the highest level. He reportedly has no interest in a move outside major European leagues, and his contract with United — which runs until 2027 with an option for a further year — provides both security and clarity regarding his future plans.
Fernandes remains a central figure in United’s sporting rebuild under co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has outlined a long-term vision for restoring the club’s competitiveness. The midfielder is said to be fully aligned with the project and believes United can still achieve a top-five Premier League finish, potentially securing qualification for next season’s Champions League.
This season, manager Ruben Amorim has deployed Fernandes in a deeper midfield role, a tactical shift designed to increase his involvement in build-up play. While some critics argue the change reduces his goal threat, Amorim believes it maximises Fernandes’ influence in possession and leadership on the pitch.
Despite the positional adjustment, Fernandes remains a key contributor. In last month’s victory over Chelsea, he registered his 100th goal for Manchester United on his 200th Premier League appearance, a milestone reflecting his consistency and impact since joining the club in 2020. Across all competitions, he has now made 298 appearances.
Amorim has repeatedly highlighted Fernandes’ importance to his squad, both as a leader and a match-winner. After the victory over Chelsea, the United boss praised his captain’s enduring influence:
“He deserves all the praise. That guy deserves to be in the history of our club, not just for what he does but for what his team conquers.”
For now, speculation over a Saudi move appears unfounded — Bruno Fernandes’ focus remains firmly on Manchester United and European football.
