With Belarus forced to play home fixtures behind closed doors in Hungary due to their ongoing ban from hosting international matches—imposed in 2022 for their role in supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—the Danes took full advantage of the neutral venue.
Denmark struck early through Victor Kristiansen in the 14th minute, his composed finish echoing around the empty stadium. Moments later, the 19-year-old turned provider, cleverly setting up Rasmus Højlund for a close-range strike that survived a lengthy VAR review for offside.
Højlund, who led the line with authority, added a second before half-time, reacting sharply after Patrick Dorgu’s effort struck the post. The Manchester United forward then turned creator, squaring for Dorgu to finish in first-half stoppage time as Denmark went into the break 4–0 ahead and cruising.
The second half brought no respite for a beleaguered Belarus defence. Substitute Anders Dreyer entered the match to devastating effect, firing home Denmark’s fifth in the 66th minute before adding a sixth 12 minutes later, his low effort slipping under goalkeeper Fedor Lapoukhov to seal a comprehensive victory.
The result moves Denmark to seven points from three matches, level with Scotland but ahead on goal difference. Scotland beat Greece 3–1 on the same night to maintain pressure at the top. Greece sit third on three points, while Belarus remain bottom of the group with no points and a growing goal deficit.
