Memphis Depay made history once again as the Netherlands eased to a 4-0 victory over Finland in Amsterdam, breaking the national assist record and extending his all-time goalscoring tally.
The 31-year-old forward set up Donyell Malen for a powerful opener from distance before delivering a pinpoint free-kick that Virgil van Dijk headed home to double the lead.
That assist marked Depay’s 35th for his country — two more than previous record-holder Wesley Sneijder.
Depay then added his own name to the scoresheet, calmly converting a 38th-minute penalty for his 54th international goal, further extending his record as the Netherlands’ top scorer.
In the closing stages, Cody Gakpo hammered in a fourth after neat link-up play with Xavi Simons, sealing a dominant display at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The result keeps Ronald Koeman’s side firmly on course for the 2026 World Cup, sitting six points clear at the top of Group G ahead of Poland and Finland.
