The French newspaper Le Parisien revealed the "astronomical" prices of tickets to the 2026 World Cup, which will be held for the first time with 48 teams in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. According to the newspaper, citing American sources, including The Athletic, prices have witnessed an unprecedented increase compared to previous editions, which could constitute a burden on fans wishing to attend the world's largest football event.
Although organizers announced that group stage tickets will start at just $60, these tickets will be very limited, while prices rise sharply in the later stages:
Opening match (Estadio Azteca, Mexico): between $745 and $1,825.
First match in the United States (Estadio SoFi, California): between $1,120 and $2,735.
The Grand Final: Prices for the first batch ranged from $2,030 to $6,730 (more than €5,700), and sold out within hours despite their high cost.
The newspaper noted that the first phase of sales, reserved for Visa cardholders who won the draw, witnessed overwhelming demand and long online queues that prevented many from purchasing.
Le Parisien confirmed that fans still have other opportunities to obtain tickets through new sales phases:
Phase Two: Registration between October 27 and 31.
Phase Three: Beginning after the official draw, which will be held on December 5 in Washington, fans will be able to purchase tickets for specific matches.
It is worth noting that FIFA has set strict purchase limits, limiting the number of tickets to no more than four per match, and a maximum of 40 tickets per person throughout the tournament.
