En-Nesyri Strike Seals Record 16th Straight Win as Morocco Make History

Morocco continued their remarkable rise on the world stage by setting a new international football record with their 16th consecutive victory, defeating Congo 1-0 in Rabat during 2026 World Cup qualifying.

The decisive moment came from Youssef En-Nesyri, the Fenerbahçe striker, who found the net in the second half to secure the win for the Atlas Lions. The result extends Morocco’s flawless run, which began on 7 June 2024, and surpasses the previous record of 15 straight international wins held jointly with Spain.

Morocco had already sealed their place at the 2026 World Cup earlier this month after a dominant 5-0 victory over Niger, becoming the first African nation to qualify for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The historic achievement was celebrated across the nation and acknowledged by the Moroccan Football Federation, which posted on X: "Record breaking. Our National Team makes HISTORY with 16 CONSECUTIVE WINS. Unstoppable Lions."

The new benchmark eclipses Spain’s famed run between Euro 2008 and June 2009, when La Roja were at the peak of their golden generation. Before that, France held the record with a 14-match winning streak between March 2003 and February 2004 while reigning as European champions.

This latest milestone further cements Morocco’s status as one of world football’s emerging powers, following their stunning semi-final run at the 2022 World Cup — the first ever by an African nation. With momentum on their side and defensive resilience matched by clinical efficiency, Walid Regragui’s side now shifts focus toward next summer’s global stage, determined to build on their historic achievements.
