Bayern Munich Put Unblemished Start on the Line Against Unbeaten Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will face their toughest challenge of the season so far when they host Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Saturday – a clash between two unbeaten title contenders.

Bayern’s Dominant Form

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern side have enjoyed a flawless start to the campaign, winning all 10 matches in all competitions. They sit top of the Bundesliga on 18 points, holding a four-point lead over Dortmund.

Their form has been nothing short of ruthless:

  • Six straight league wins
  • Over four goals per game on average
  • Zero defeats under Kompany

Harry Kane has been central to Bayern’s attacking power. The England captain has already scored 11 league goals and added two more midweek in England’s 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Latvia, helping secure their place at the 2026 World Cup.

New arrival Luis Díaz has made an immediate impact as well, contributing five goals and four assists in his first Bundesliga outings.

Dortmund’s Defensive Steel

While Bayern have overwhelmed teams with firepower, Borussia Dortmund—led by former Bayern coach Niko Kovač—have built their unbeaten start on defensive resilience. Remarkably, they have conceded just one goal in their last five league matches.

Dortmund have also evolved into a rapid counter-attacking threat, thanks to the pace and directness of:

  • Serhou Guirassy
  • Karim Adeyemi

Kovač praised his side’s development:

“The team has developed in a good direction. We have consistency, we have continuity. A big compliment to the lads—they take it on board every day in training and deliver at the weekend.”

Bayern Still "Clear Favourites"

Despite Dortmund taking four points from their last two visits to the Allianz Arena, Kovač insists Bayern remain on another level:

“Bayern are the top favourites. We are a big club, but Bayern are the record champions. They are by far the team with the most titles—Bayern are on another level.”

Still, Dortmund see Saturday as an opportunity to send a message in the title race.

“With a good result, we might be able to close the gap,” Kovač said. “If it’s a draw, we stay four points behind. A lot is at stake—results against a direct competitor can count double.”

With elite firepower on one side and defensive resilience on the other, Der Klassiker promises to be a defining early chapter in the Bundesliga title race.
