Marcus Rashford has expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona beyond the end of his loan spell from Manchester United, signalling a potential permanent move in the summer.
Barcelona hold an option to buy the England international for £28 million, a figure notably lower than the £40 million United would reportedly demand from any other club. Rashford’s current deal at Old Trafford runs until 2028, but his future under Ruben Amorim appears increasingly uncertain.
Speaking to ESPN, Rashford confirmed his wish to stay in Spain:
“For sure. I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player, it is an honour.”
The 27-year-old forward has rediscovered his form at Camp Nou, scoring five goals in 12 appearances, including a brace against Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday. The performance highlighted the resurgence of a player who struggled to find consistency at United in recent seasons.
Rashford’s renaissance began during a loan spell at Aston Villa last season, where Unai Emery helped reignite his confidence and attacking sharpness. His progress has continued in Spain, where he is expected to make his first El Clásico appearance against Real Madrid this weekend.
Reflecting on his journey, Rashford acknowledged the importance of a fresh start after two decades with his boyhood club:
“People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me — and I’m enjoying everything.”
Rashford’s comments suggest that a permanent switch to Barcelona could mark a defining moment in the next phase of his career, as he seeks both stability and success away from Old Trafford.
