Napoli Back on Top After Beating Inter Milan in Serie A Clash

Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne were on target as defending champions Napoli defeated Inter Milan 3-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to return to the top of the Serie A table.

De Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half after Giovanni Di Lorenzo was brought down by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the Belgian playmaker limped off shortly after netting his fourth goal in eight matches since joining from Manchester City.

Napoli extended their lead early in the second half when McTominay latched onto a long pass from Leonardo Spinazzola and fired a precise first-time strike past Yann Sommer.

Inter hit back through Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty following a handball by Alessandro Buongiorno, yet André-Frank Zambo Anguissa quickly restored Napoli’s two-goal cushion.

Despite late pressure from Inter — including a Denzel Dumfries header that struck the woodwork — Napoli held firm to claim their first win in three games, following defeats to Torino and PSV Eindhoven.

The result lifts Antonio Conte’s side to the summit, one point ahead of AC Milan, while Inter slip to second.

Roma could join Napoli on 18 points if they defeat Sassuolo on Sunday.
