Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday night, in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage, saw the return of former Reds player Trent Alexander-Arnold to Anfield.
The Englishman entered the Anfield pitch in the 81st minute as a substitute wearing Real Madrid's white jersey, only to be met with boos and jeers from Liverpool fans.
After the final whistle, Trent Alexander-Arnold headed towards a gathering of players, coaches, and the referee. The English player appeared to be on his way to shake hands with his former Liverpool teammate, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, before anyone else. However, Salah turned away inexplicably and went in a different direction, perhaps not noticing his teammate.
This caused some embarrassment for Alexander-Arnold before he was immediately embraced by his former coach, Dutchman Arne Slot. He then shook hands with his former teammate, Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, the Reds' captain, and some of his other former teammates. Trent Alexander-Arnold played alongside Mohamed Salah at Liverpool for several years, winning a number of titles together, before the English full-back moved to Real Madrid last summer.
