Brazil Confirm Groin Injury for Arsenal Defender Gabriel

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti says defender Gabriel will undergo further assessment on Sunday after the Arsenal centre-back picked up a groin problem during Brazil’s 2–0 friendly win over Senegal in London.

The 27-year-old went down clutching his right thigh shortly before the hour mark and, after receiving treatment, was replaced as a precaution.

Gabriel has been a central figure in Arsenal’s strong start to the Premier League season, helping the league leaders concede only five goals in 11 matches.

His injury now raises concerns ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, with the Gunners facing Tottenham on 23 November and Bayern Munich in the Champions League just days later.

“I’m not sure how serious it is,” Ancelotti said after the match.

“It looks like an adductor issue. The medical team will check him tomorrow. We’re disappointed, of course, and we hope he recovers quickly.”

Brazil secured the win at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Chelsea youngster Estevão and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

In other news, Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso confirmed that Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has departed the national camp.

The full-back did not feature in Italy’s World Cup qualifying victory over Moldova, having been on an individual training plan to manage his workload.

“We evaluated him and he had a few problems,” Gattuso told Sky Sports Italia ahead of Italy’s meeting with Norway.

“He trained well, he wanted to stay, but pushing him would not have been right for him or for Arsenal.”

A source told BBC Sport that Calafiori has not returned to Arsenal for treatment.
