Thiago’s Late Brace Lifts Brentford Past Burnley

Brentford striker Igor Thiago continued his outstanding season with two late goals as the Bees beat Burnley 3–1, handing the visitors their fourth consecutive defeat.

The match drifted toward a goalless finish until the 81st minute, when Thiago converted a penalty after Axel Tuanzebe brought down Dango Ouattara.

Burnley responded almost immediately through Zian Flemming, who scored from the spot after Michael Kayode conceded a penalty just four minutes later.

But Brentford restored their lead almost instantly.

Jordan Henderson’s dangerous cross caused chaos in the Burnley box, allowing Thiago to smash home his second of the afternoon.

Ouattara then capped the win in stoppage time to secure all three points.

Brentford Apply Early Pressure

Thiago threatened from the opening stages, firing narrowly over after Mikkel Damsgaard picked him out with a low cutback.

Damsgaard then tested Arijanet Muric himself as Brentford dominated the early exchanges.

Burnley barely offered anything going forward until the final minute of the first half, when Flemming forced Caoimhin Kelleher into a superb flying save-the visitors’ first effort on target.

Thiago had a goal ruled out for offside early in the second period, while Kayode headed just wide, adding to Brentford’s frustration as the minutes ticked away.

Chaos of Penalties Decides the Contest

The game finally ignited when Tuanzebe clipped Ouattara in the box, allowing Thiago-who had missed a penalty at Brighton last week-to open the scoring from 12 yards.

But Burnley hit back instantly when Kayode gave away another penalty.

Flemming tucked it away for his fourth goal in five matches, briefly giving the visitors hope.

Their optimism vanished less than a minute later.

Henderson’s delivery caused panic, and Thiago reacted quickest to hammer home his second.

Ouattara then settled the result deep into injury time as Brentford climbed to eighth place with 19 points from 13 games.

Burnley remain second-bottom on 10 points.

Brentford Analysis: Thiago in Relentless Form

Thiago once again proved decisive.

The 24-year-old now has 11 league goals in 13 appearances-five of them penalties-and only Erling Haaland has scored more this season.

His sharp movement, calm finishing, and growing confidence were all on display.

With nine goals in his last eight matches, he is rapidly becoming one of the Premier League’s standout forwards.

If he keeps this up, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti will surely take notice.

Burnley Analysis: Parker Running Out of Answers

Scott Parker’s side remain deep in relegation trouble.

With only three wins all season and 27 goals conceded-the joint-worst defensive record-they are showing familiar weaknesses from previous Premier League campaigns.

Burnley stayed defensively organised for long spells but again lacked any real attacking threat.

Flemming was their brightest spark, but chances were scarce, and they managed just two shots on target.

Even promising moments-such as Hannibal Mejbri’s energetic first-half showing-turned sour, with the midfielder booked for diving when he went down under Mathias Jensen’s challenge.

With teams around them improving, Burnley’s situation is becoming increasingly concerning.
