Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has suffered another setback after confirming that winger Oliver Antman will be unavailable for the next two months due to a leg injury.
Rohl admitted he was “very surprised” by the severity of the adductor issue, noting that Antman’s substitution at the weekend had been a tactical decision rather than a forced change.
The 24-year-old Finland international now joins defenders Derek Cornelius and John Souttar on the injury list. Rohl is also preparing to lose Mohamed Diomande and Nasser Djiga later this month as they depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The mounting absences make the upcoming January transfer window pivotal for Rangers’ ambitions. Rohl said he is in ongoing discussions with chairman Andrew Cavenagh to prioritise “quality over quantity” and recruit players who “know what it takes to play for Rangers.”
“This gives me more and more influence in this part and hopefully we take a good step forward,” Rohl said. “The key is that we are aligned. It’s crucial to prepare this window well, and hopefully the market gives us the opportunities to do what we want. Earlier is better.”
Despite Sunday’s goalless draw at home to Falkirk, Rohl urged against overreaction. The German highlighted that Rangers have collected 13 points from their past 15 available, and he believes a similar return from the next five fixtures would keep them firmly in the hunt as they attempt to close the nine- and seven-point gaps to league leaders Hearts and city rivals Celtic, respectively.
