United States Schedule High-Profile Friendlies Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The United States men’s national team will complete its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a series of high-calibre friendly matches against Belgium, Portugal and Germany, the U.S. Soccer Federation confirmed on Tuesday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad will open the final phase of their build-up on March 28 in Atlanta, where they will face Belgium. Three days later, they remain at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a second fixture — this time against Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The team will then travel to Charlotte, North Carolina for an additional match on May 31, with their opponent yet to be finalised. Their final warm-up test arrives on June 6 at Chicago’s Soldier Field, where they will meet four-time world champions Germany in what is expected to be their most demanding pre-tournament challenge.

Pochettino welcomed the opportunity to test his side against elite international opposition. “This is a massive opportunity to challenge ourselves against some of the top teams in the world,” he said. “These are incredible matches for the players and for the fans.”

Belgium, Portugal and Germany have all secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which has expanded to 48 teams and will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament begins on June 11, with the final scheduled for July 19.

The United States will open their campaign in Los Angeles on June 12, while the group-stage draw — which will reveal their first-round opponents — takes place in Washington this Friday.
