Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed Noni Madueke’s impact and individual brilliance following the winger’s match-winning performance in a 3-0 Champions League victory over Club Brugge in Belgium.
Madueke set the tone with a spectacular opener in the 25th minute, unleashing a powerful strike to give Arsenal control of Wednesday’s group-stage encounter.
“An unbelievable goal,” Arteta said afterwards. “If you want an example of individual quality and those magic moments that change games, that was it. To collect the ball so deep, eliminate defenders with his dribbling, and finish with that power and precision — it shows the level he can reach.”
The 23-year-old, signed from Chelsea in July, doubled Arsenal’s advantage after the break with a close-range header, taking his Champions League tally to three goals in two matches. His first came against Bayern Munich last month, shortly after returning from a knee injury.
Madueke started on the right wing, a role typically filled by England international Bukayo Saka. Arteta noted that the competition between the pair is healthy and essential to maintaining elite standards across a congested schedule.
“They have different qualities, and we will need both of them,” Arteta said. “We’re playing every three days, so having players who are fresh, hungry, and aware they must perform at the highest level is vital. This is the standard we set.”
Arteta emphasised that the next challenge for Madueke is sustaining this form: “It’s about consistency — not one game, not two games. It’s producing this level across ten games in a row, every three days. That’s the demand at this club.”
Premier League leaders Arsenal will look to extend their momentum when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
