Raphinha Double Sends Barcelona Seven Points Clear

Raphinha struck twice in the second half as Barcelona eventually wore down a stubborn Osasuna to extend their lead at the top of La Liga to seven points over Real Madrid.

The defending champions dominated possession and chances throughout, outshooting Osasuna 21-3, but for long periods it looked like it would be one of those frustrating nights.

That changed in the 70th minute when Raphinha finally broke the deadlock, curling a precise finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The Brazilian then sealed the points four minutes from time, arriving at the back post to turn home after a cross deflected into his path.

Barcelona thought they had taken the lead earlier through Ferran Torres, who headed in Marcus Rashford’s cross after timing his run to perfection.

However, VAR intervened to rule the goal out, judging Raphinha to be marginally offside during a short-corner routine in the build-up.

Torres went close again soon after, meeting Lamine Yamal’s dangerous inswinging delivery, but the former Manchester City forward could only lift his first-time effort over the bar.

Despite spending much of the match on the back foot, Osasuna did threaten on the counter.

Early in the second half Victor Munoz burst past Alejandro Balde and found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Joan Garcia, only to drag his effort wide.

Barcelona’s breakthrough came when Pedri surged forward from midfield and slipped the ball to Raphinha, who made no mistake with a clinical finish past Sergio Herrera.

With Osasuna’s resistance broken, Raphinha ensured there would be no late twist by tapping in his second late on.

The victory caps a remarkable turnaround in the title race. Just seven weeks ago Barcelona trailed Real Madrid by five points after a 2-1 defeat in El Clasico.

Now, after seven consecutive league wins, they sit seven points clear at the summit - though Madrid can cut the gap to four with victory at Alaves on Sunday.
