Ice-cool Jimenez closes in on Premier League penalty perfection record

Ice-cool Jimenez closes in on Premier League penalty perfection record

Fulham’s long wait for a Premier League penalty proved inconsequential, as Raul Jimenez once again demonstrated his composure from 12 yards to secure a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest and move within touching distance of a remarkable Premier League record.

The Mexican forward calmly converted Fulham’s first league penalty since January 2025, extending his flawless record from the spot and underlining why his success was rarely in doubt. That strike took Jimenez to 11 successful penalties from 11 attempts, placing him alongside Yaya Toure as the only players to maintain a 100% conversion rate having taken 10 or more Premier League penalties.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer had briefly surpassed that mark in December 2024 when he reached 12 goals from 12 spot-kicks, but his perfect record was ended three months later when a penalty was saved against Leicester. As a result, Jimenez now stands just two successful penalties away from becoming the Premier League player to score the most penalties before suffering a first miss.

Explaining his technique, Jimenez highlighted patience and repetition as the foundations of his success. “I always wait for the goalkeeper to move before striking the ball,” he said. “It’s something I’ve worked on throughout my career. I enjoy that pressure, and I’m happy to keep delivering. I’ve never missed a Premier League penalty, and I want to keep it that way.”

His consistency places him in elite company. Bryan Mbeumo had also reached 10 consecutive successful penalties earlier this year before seeing his record ended for Brentford against Fulham. Former team-mate Ivan Toney likewise converted his first 10 Premier League penalties, only to fall short of Toure’s benchmark when he missed his 11th against Newcastle in 2023.

While Jimenez and Toure top the list for perfection, Premier League history is dominated by volume scorers rather than flawless ones. Alan Shearer remains the competition’s most prolific penalty scorer with 56 goals from the spot, having taken 67 in total. Frank Lampard, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Steven Gerrard and Mark Noble also rank among the top six for penalties scored, though none feature among the top 10 most clinical converters.

That distinction belongs to a group defined by precision rather than quantity. Former Southampton midfielder Matt Le Tissier boasts one of the finest records, converting 24 of his 25 Premier League penalties. His only miss came in March 1993, when Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley denied him from the spot.

Danny Murphy follows closely with 18 successful penalties from 19 attempts, while James Beattie and Julian Dicks each missed just once in their Premier League careers from the spot. Among current players, Callum Wilson’s 16 goals from 17 penalties stand out, alongside Bukayo Saka’s 12 from 13 and Alexander Isak’s 11 from 12.

As the data illustrates, provided by Opta, Jimenez’s continued perfection places him firmly among the Premier League’s most reliable penalty takers. With further opportunities likely to come, the Fulham striker now has history within reach — and, judging by his composure, few would bet against him extending his flawless run.
