Semenyo Transfer Decision Nears as City Lead Race

Antoine Semenyo’s future could be decided within the next 48 hours, with the Bournemouth forward keen to resolve his situation before the new year.

BBC Sport reported last week that Manchester City are well advanced in their pursuit of the Ghana international, who has a £65m release clause.

Further talks between City and Semenyo’s representatives are expected in the coming days as the Premier League champions look to finalise a deal ahead of the January window.

Until any agreement is signed, however, the attacker’s options remain open.

Liverpool are monitoring the situation closely, particularly after Alexander Isak’s recent injury, and are among several clubs to have registered an interest.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea have also made enquiries.

City remain the only club to have opened formal discussions with Bournemouth so far, though Liverpool’s interest is notable given sporting director Richard Hughes’ strong ties to the south-coast club from his time at the Vitality Stadium.

Semenyo is eager for clarity well before 10 January, when the release clause in his contract becomes inactive until the summer.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, would prefer to retain the 25-year-old for their first two fixtures of 2026 – against Arsenal on 3 January and Tottenham four days later – before considering a sale.

Approaching his 26th birthday on 7 January, Semenyo is conscious that he is entering his peak years and wants a move that offers the right long-term project and a realistic chance of competing for major honours.

Family considerations and location are also part of his thinking, and he is keen to avoid a prolonged transfer saga.
