West Ham Boost Survival Hopes with Burnley Victory

West Ham breathed new life into their Premier League survival bid with a crucial victory at Turf Moor, further deepening Burnley’s relegation woes and leaving the Clarets staring at an increasingly bleak future.

Despite remaining in the bottom three, the Hammers moved to within three points of safety, while second-bottom Burnley are now marooned 11 points from 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

With Scott Parker’s side winless in the league since 26 October and having managed just three victories all season, an immediate return to the Championship looks ever more likely.

The tone was set early as West Ham took control in the 13th minute.

Crysencio Summerville continued his scintillating run of form by lifting a delicate finish over the onrushing Martin Dubravka after Burnley surrendered possession cheaply in midfield.

It was the Dutch winger’s fifth goal in as many games across all competitions and underlined the visitors’ growing confidence.

West Ham’s dominance was rewarded again before the break.

After a slick move down the left, Summerville’s clever touch fed El Hadji Malick Diouf, whose inch-perfect cross was met by Taty Castellanos.

The Argentine forward made no mistake, planting a free header past Dubravka to double the lead and give Nuno Espirito Santo’s side firm control.

Burnley attempted to respond after half-time, but their familiar attacking frailties came back to haunt them.

Zian Flemming and Marcus Edwards both spurned clear chances to reduce the deficit, and with no cutting edge in the final third, the home side never truly threatened a comeback.

Burnley analysis: Defensive fragility and blunt attack deepen despair

There was a sense of cruel irony as strains from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly echoed around Turf Moor before kick-off. For Burnley, this was firmly another chapter in the ugly.

Sloppy use of the ball in midfield proved costly for the opener, while Castellanos’ goal was equally alarming in its simplicity, the forward left unmarked to nod home.

It marked the 25th goal Burnley have conceded in the first half of a Premier League match this season, a statistic that speaks volumes.

Lacking goals at one end and leaking them at the other, Parker’s side were left with far too much to do once again.

With their winless run now stretching to 16 matches, Burnley are one game away from matching their worst-ever top-flight sequence without a victory, dating back to 1889-90.

West Ham analysis: Belief growing in relegation fight

After a run of 10 league games without a win earlier in the season, West Ham are finally finding momentum at a crucial stage.

Since Callum Wilson’s dramatic late strike at Tottenham in mid-January, the Hammers have taken nine points from their last four matches, restoring belief within the camp.

There was a clear gulf in quality on show at Turf Moor.

Deadline-day loan signing Axel Disasi brought composure at the back, helping West Ham keep a first clean sheet in 21 league games, while Mateus Fernandes dictated the tempo in midfield.

Summerville, meanwhile, was a constant menace, his pace and movement tormenting Kyle Walker throughout and setting the platform for a win that could yet prove pivotal in West Ham’s fight for survival.
